October 18th Follow up with the Dr

We visited Noah's pediatrician today as a follow up for his trip to the ER on Saturday. He was very helpful in explaining why seizures happen to some kids, and that while Noah may or may not ever have another one, there are ways to reduce the risk. For the next year or so, at the first sign of fever, ear infection, or cold or flu we are to give Motrin to help his little body regulate his temperature. Febrile seizures happen when the body's temperature increases suddenly, even if it is considered a mild fever. We will also give precautionary Motrin after vaccinations, which he said are notorious for causing Febrile episodes.

He also ensured me that while the seizures themselves do not cause any damage to Noah, which relieves me, he did caution that there is the risk of choking or having breathing issues while the seizure is happening. So I'm back to being paranoid that I won't hear him having another one. :(

Some random facts about Febrile seizures, about 1 in 25 children between the ages of 6 months and 6 years will have one. Boys are twice as likely as girls (I thought this was strange). The unconscious, intense grogginess period Noah experienced after the seizure is called the postictal state and it is essentially the brain giving itself time to reboot.

Febrile seizures usually occur within the first 12-24 hours of illness, which makes them difficult to prevent, if we don't notice he isn't feeling well or feeling feverish we may fail to take preventative steps. :( There is a 1 in 3 chance that a child will have a second Febrile seizure. Although due to the fact that Noah had one at less than 15 months his risk of having another may be greater. Also Febrile seizures are thought to be genetic - James had two as a baby, which means little brother may have one too. Yikes!

Yes that is a bag of cookies next to him, he has not been eating very well at all the last few days. So I was just happy to see him eating something other than milk (fortunately we had a few free samples of toddler formula laying around so we've been able to pump some nutrition into him).

October 17th Noah loves baths so much

that he tried to take one on his own. This is what I came home to today, James was hanging up Noah's clean laundry and Noah some how managed to climb into the tub all by himself. Silly kiddo.

Noah seems to feel ok during the day, but he woke up MANY times last night, crying and pissed off that his ears hurt, he doesn't feel good and wanted to be asleep. We're hoping he can get a good, restful night's sleep tonight!

October 15th Seizure :(

Noah had a febrile seizure this afternoon. It was the scariest experience I have ever had.
He had a fever of 101.7 this morning and went down for an early nap, after sleeping for almost three hours I heard him making a very strange choking noise over the baby monitor. I saw him convulsing and ran into his room, he was still shaking and his eyes were rolling back in his head. I called 911 and Noah went into the deep sleep stake that the operator said was normal after a seizure, there was no waking him but thankfully I could hear him breathing/snoring. When the fire fighters arrived Noah opened his eyes but was SO crazy groggy and disoriented. He didn't really respond to anything until the paramedic stuck him with the blood sugar testing needle in the ambulance, which really pissed him off and then the tears came. He didn't perk up until Daddy got to the hospital - he had been playing softball in Manteca.
Poor guy had to have blood work, a catheter for urine and then two shots of antibiotics. Fortunately everything came back fine, they think his 103.7 fever was due to a slight ear infection.

Noah is appears to be feeling much better now, although tired. We'll make sure his fever stays down with Tylenol. Very scary but not a rare occurrence for little ones, hopefully he doesn't have any more before the 'grow out of it' age of about 6.

October 12th More PJ pants

I don't know why I find PJ pants so adorable, but I do.

Noah is completely engaged in Toy Story 2 - again. Pretty sure he's seen it at least ten times. And yet he still gets excited every time Jessie the cowgirl comes on screen. I need to video tape him watching that part, it's pretty funny.

Grandma is teaching Noah to clap, kid sure is uncoordinated. Who knew having your hands meet in one place at the same time could look so silly? LOL He'll get the hang of it....

October 10th Tired boy

I think this picture of Noah is so cute; earlier tonight he was playing and crawling all around, but was very tired. So this is the face he gave me when I told him to smile:

Noah has been an exceptionally good boy these last few days, going down for naps and bed with out a peep. Today's nap he was obviously happy to be put in his crib, and enjoyed snuggling into his blanket with lovie. I should have taken a picture of that because it was super cute.

Another picture I wish I was able to take today is when I picked up Noah from Grandma and Papa's I found him in Grandma's playhouse, standing up and playing with the other day care kids. It was SO cute, and he looked like such a big boy!

October 6th Clean up, clean up!

The living room stays tidy after I've cleaned up Noah's toys for abooouuuuttt 10 seconds before the toys explode every where again.

I guess once Sequel baby is up and moving around it will only remain clean for about 5 seconds ;)

October 4th Sippy Cups

Noah got a new sippy cup today, he looks like such a big boy drinking from it.

I just love the way he crosses his feet while sitting in the high chair!

October 3rd Yay for feetie jammies!

Today is a much cooler day and Noah looks SO cute in these sleep and play feetie outfits!

He got a kick out of playing with my cookie cutters, he kept putting them on his head like a hat lol, until I grabbed the camera of course.

He also clearly said "bubble" 5 or 6 times today when we took him out on the porch to blow bubbles. I would say that's his official 5th word, behind Mama, Dada, dog and ball. :)

October 1st Noah is getting a......

Noah is such a lucky duck to be getting a little brother who will be so close in age. At only 18 months apart they will always have a friend to play with. I know Noah is going to be an amazing big brother!

Like a switch Noah has slept through the night all week, I've forgotten how good it feels to be rested! Just in time for me to enjoy it for a while and know what I'm missing once little brother arrives. ;)

p.s. Happy 4oth Birthday Uncle Ray!

September 28th Happy Birthday Papa Ray

Today is Papa Ray's birthday :)
Noah is so fortunate to be able to spend his day with Grandma and Papa while Mommy is at school. I love hearing how he plays in the playroom, happily going from toy to toy entertaining himself. He'll have friends there to play with again next week, Grandma is feeling well enough to return back to work early!

Noah slept through the night last night, second time in a row this week! I think he is taking pity on his mama after hearing about the crazy class she is subbing in. Or maybe it's due to the fact that since he has switched to taking one long (2 1/2 to 3 hours!) nap instead of two smaller ones he finds it easier to sleep through the night.
I don't know if it was intentional or not but I heard his lullaby seahorse turn on twice last night, but he never made a peep.

Some may view this as bad parenting...but I find it hilarious that he will sit and watch Toy Story, happily eating his organic veggie puffs - straight out of the bag like a big boy! Too funny.

It's so cute to see him reach in the bag without taking his eyes off of the TV, take out a puff and shove it in his mouth. :)

September 21st Portraits

Collins Family (Sequel baby 18 weeks!)

We finally took the pictures I meant to take when Noah was 12 months. You would think with how much I point the camera at him he wouldn't have the deer in the headlights look in our family picture. LOL But at least he warmed up for his solo shots!

September 20th 13 months/Oreos

In celebration of Noah turning 13 months today James gave Noah a bit of his favorite cookie treat - milk softened Oreos (yuck!)
Noah took after his Daddy and thought it was awesome - and messy.
